Magda Przybyla has worked for Kick It Stop Smoking Service in London since 2010, initially as a Polish-speaking advisor reaching out to smokers in routine and manual groups in the Polish community via churches, shops, workplaces and cultural centres. In her weekly sessions, Magda managed to see 209 Polish smokers and helped 101 quit.
In 2014, she helped establish new GP and community clinics using her experience and positive energy, and over 2014/15 she saw 182 smokers and helped 99 quit (54 per cent quit rate). This year her remit has been extended across three boroughs.
Michael Walsh said: ‘It is encouraging to see the smoking cessation service being adapted so that it can be easily accessed by those who do not have English as a first language. Many of these smokers are unaware of the services available, or reluctant to ask for help.’
Alex Bobak commented: ‘Magda is the perfect personality for a stop smoking advisor: positive, light hearted and generous of spirit.’
